Connecting the Pieces...

All Texas Conference and Retreat

March 23 – 26, 2023 FACE TO FACE

The workshop I will be delivering: How can we as coaches - without becoming therapists - deal with mental wellbeing as this is becoming more and more common to be brought to us by our clients?

As coaches, we understand the importance of taking a holistic and nurturing approach to life. We tend to do this more intentionally with our clients and others in our lives. Our goal for this year’s retreat and conference is to facilitate nourishment of your mind, body, and spirit.

According to a new national poll from CNN and the Kaiser Foundation, Mental Health has grown to be an outsized problem, with 90% of Americans saying it is now a crisis.

The good news? The groundbreaking neuroscience of 3 Brains Head, Heart, and Gut Coaching is at our side to coach our clients on this.

Why? Only in our Head we have awareness of the past and the future, our Heart and Gut Brain always live in the present.

Meaning that we do not have to go back to the past but can coach our clients on how the Heart and Gut would like it to be from now onwards instead of how it is.

We combine theory with exercises.

Learning Outcomes:

1 Upon completion, participant will be able to identify the Brains Language: which brain is talking and influencing the mental wellbeing?

2 Upon completion, participant will be able to implement and use inquiry questions 3 Brains related, integrating them in their coaching practice

3 Upon completion, participant will be able to distinguish which of the 3 Brains are dominating, willing to change or are stuck and are stopping to achieve the desired wellbeing of a client

Utilising your 3 Brains - Head, Heart, and Gut - for leadership and coaching

We all know that

  • Operating with a strong results orientation,

  • Solving problems effectively,

  • Seeking different perspectives, and

  • Supporting others

are essentials for achievements and a healthy work climate. We also are aware that when we work with leaders, that despite knowing it, many leaders struggle to be the example in showing those behaviours or coaching their employees on it. Even when they make concrete action and development plans many will fall back sooner or later in their old behaviour/beliefs.

There is nobody to blame, as long lasting change is hard to establish! When we have a desire to change beliefs, or habits/behaviours that are learned in early lifehood; awareness, understanding and repetition as change model is not enough to establish the desired long lasting development. What are the main reasons for this unconscious stubbornness to change? Our 3 Brains have different strategies to deliver the best outcome for us:

  • Our heart has an extreme desire to bond, have healthy connections with others, and care about the consequences for the other whilst ...

  • Our gut fully supports the egocentric ‘just get it done and take care of yourself’ mentality and ...

  • Our head tries it outmost best to provide some logic on these polar opposite attitudes with some strategic logical explanation in a non-emotional way, and has most of the times not the capacity to overrule the other two brains.

Many follow in their daily decisions their most dominant brain and don't listen or act on the other two.

What is the result?

Every leader understands that they have to learn, develop their skills, take care of the team and the results and the majority will be stopped by an unconscious fear that this will not result in short term results and fall therefore back to in their old way and that is in many situations: lead the team or company on P&L drivers as sales increase or cost reduction/efficiency.

Strangely enough you could wonder: Why is biology creating an internal conflict in us as evolution and biology don't make mistakes?

What could be the reason of these opposite objectives and more important: How can we as coaches coach our clients on these multiple internal preferences?

Because if biology is right - and it is - it means we can use this internal duality in our personal, team and company benefit. 🎉

What is the solution?

Having our 3 Brains - Head, Heart and Gut - aligned for the desired development.

It sounds so easy and logical, but: How do we know the perspective of our 3 brains are related with a topic on the table?

This and more we are going to cover in this session!

Takeaways of this session:

  • Discover the way your own 3 brains communicates within you

  • Learn the basics of the 3 brains language of your client

  • Learn how the 3 brains make decisions

  • Learn to distinguish which of the 3 Brains are in charge, willing to change or are stuck and are stopping to achieve the desired outcome

  • Learn ways to assist your clients with the inner pendulum of our 3 brains to assess a situation from multiple angles and make sure they are grounded and objective when making decisions related to their wellbeing

  • Some cherry picking from the science of the 3 Brains - our Head, Heart and Gut - and what it means for us coaches.
